Lagos offers a high quality of life. It is a picturesque coastal town in the Algarve with plenty of natural beauty and some of the best beaches in the country. Lagos is an ideal location for families, digital nomads, and remote workers looking for sunshine, nature, and quiet. But don’t let that fool you: there is plenty to do in Lagos; with parks, green spaces, and of course, the coast, there are a lot of outdoor activities available. Plus there is a night scene that offers something for everyone, from laid-back chill bars to raging night clubs. During the summer you can expect a lot of tourists, although Lagos is said to be slightly less touristy than its neighbouring towns. Despite this, expats living in Lagos appreciate the sunny weather year round, the fresh seafood, and the easy access to Lisbon. There is a range of public and private schools in Lagos, with a variety of curriculums. Public schools are, of course, free of charge, and for newcomers language courses are also provided free of charge for children and adults.

Is Lagos safe? The short answer is yes, Lagos is very safe, as is Algarve and Portugal in general.  There are almost no violent crimes in Lagos, very little traffic (hence very few accidents), and it is safe to walk around alone, even at night. As with any country and city, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and be careful with your personal belongings, especially in crowded, touristy places.

While most people prefer to have a car for easier and faster trips, you don’t absolutely need a car. There are public buses that go around Lagos, from the town to some beaches, and can even connect you to other towns in Algarve. There are also buses and trains for long distance travels, for e.g. to Lisbon.

Lagos offers a perfect balance of beach, green spaces, culture, and nightlife. Life in Lagos consists of plenty of nature and outdoor activities amongst locals, tourists, and expats. The weather is great year round, the people are friendly and welcoming, and the food is fresh and delicious.

Unsurprisingly, tourism and hospitality is one of the most important economic drives in Lagos. Most of the businesses in Lagos focus on tourist accommodations, the food industry (bars and restaurants), and recreational water activities like kayaking and dolphin tours. But being a maritime town, there are also some local businesses that involve fishing, as well as agriculture. There is also a little bit of an entrepreneurial spirit due to the influx of digital nomads and expats living in Lagos, with plenty of coworking spaces where people can mingle and share ideas.
